If the level doesn't move
Check that the right mic is selected above, and that it isn't muted. On a Mac, look in System Settings, Sound, Input, and make sure your browser is allowed under Privacy & Security, Microphone.
If you sound too quiet
Raise the input volume in your system sound settings, or move closer to the mic. Stay a hand's width away so you don't distort.
Is my audio uploaded?
No. The test runs in your browser, and the recording stays in this tab until you leave it.
