What stays on your Mac
Speechy turns your speech into text on your own Mac. The audio you record, the text it produces, your dictation history, your custom words and your settings are stored on your Mac and are never sent to us.
Speech models are downloaded to your Mac once and then run offline.
Data we collect
- Account: your email address, and your name if you give it at checkout or sign in with Google.
- Purchases: what you bought, when, the amount, and the payment references from our payment processor. We never see or store your full card number.
- Your Macs: when you activate Speechy, we store the Mac's name, model, chip, macOS version, Speechy version, a one-way fingerprint of its hardware ID (not the ID itself, and not its serial number), and when it was activated and last checked in. This is how we count the Macs on your license and let you remove one.
- License history: a log of activations, removals, refunds and license key changes, so we can help you if something goes wrong.
- Website visits: which pages of speechy.tech are viewed and whether someone clicked Download or Buy or tried the dictation demo, measured without cookies and without recording your session.
- App usage statistics: counts about how you use Speechy, described below. Never your audio or text.
- Optional ad measurement: only if you allow it, an anonymous website identifier, selected campaign/click identifiers, the pages of speechy.tech you view, a device fingerprint and basic browser details (such as browser type and language) collected by Whop's pixel, and the amount and currency of a verified purchase. We do not send your name, email, phone, license key, audio or dictation text through this integration.
When Speechy connects to the internet
- License check: when you activate, and then at launch, when your Mac wakes, and about every 6 hours, Speechy sends the Mac details above to confirm your license. It never sends your audio or text. After a successful check it keeps working offline for up to 7 days.
- Crash reports: if Speechy crashes or freezes, it sends a technical report (the code location, app and macOS version, Mac model) to Sentry so we can fix it. Reports never include your audio, text, history, name or your Mac's name.
- Usage statistics: Speechy sends PostHog counts about how it is used, such as how many words you dictate and how long dictations take, which speech model and settings you picked, which app you dictated into (only when App Context is on for that app), the setup steps you finished and which features you use. They are linked to an internal license ID, never your email or license key, and never include your audio or text. You can turn them off in Settings > Permissions > Share usage data.
- Updates: once a day Speechy checks our update server for a new version. The check includes the app version, like any web request.
- Model downloads: when you choose a speech model, Speechy downloads it from the model's host.
- Features you connect yourself: some optional features, like the agent, use accounts you already have with other services (for example Claude Code or Codex). What you send through them goes to that service under your agreement with it, not to us.
Services we use
- Stripe: payments, receipts and refunds.
- Resend: emails we send you, such as your license key and sign-in links.
- Sentry: crash reports from the Mac app, without your content or identity.
- PostHog: usage statistics from the Mac app, as described above.
- Vercel and Neon: hosting for speechy.tech and the database with your account and license.
- Cloudflare: hosting for app downloads and updates.
- Vercel Analytics, PostHog and Open Analytics: website statistics, without cookies. We never send them your email or license key.
- Whop and its advertising platforms (including Meta): optional ad measurement when you allow it, to attribute purchases to ads. Our server sends the limited information described above, and Whop's pixel (a script from t.whop.tw) runs in your browser on our website to record page views, using a device fingerprint and its own cookies and browser storage. The pixel can also pick up an email address or phone number typed into a web form; our pages where it runs have no such fields.
Each of them only gets what it needs to do its job.
How long we keep data
Our optional attribution records expire after 27 days and are deleted during subsequent consent activity; withdrawal immediately clears the saved landing URL and disables the record. Whop and its advertising platforms retain previously received events under their own policies.
We keep your account, purchases and license history for as long as you have an account, and purchase records for as long as tax and accounting rules require. A Mac you remove stays in your license history as removed.
Your choices and rights
- See and manage your Macs and purchases on your license page at speechy.tech/license.
- Turn off usage statistics in Speechy under Settings > Permissions > Share usage data.
- Ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion of your account by emailing contact@speechy.tech. Deleting your account ends your license.
- To remove everything Speechy stored on your Mac, delete the app and its folder in your Library.
Children
Speechy isn't meant for children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we'll update this page and the date above. If a change affects what we collect, we'll tell you by email first.
