Guided setup
The first time you open Speechy on your Mac, setup walks you through permissions, picks your microphone, tries the Fn key and downloads a voice model. Then you try a real practice dictation and a short speed test that compares you with typing.
How to use Guided setup
Allow access
Microphone, Accessibility and Input Monitoring, one at a time.
Try your voice and Fn
Check the level moves as you talk, then press Fn once.
Bring your words
Import words, replacements and snippets from another dictation app.
Practice and test
A practice dictation, then two quick replies to measure your speed.
What you do, what you get
Setup
You do
“Import from Wispr Flow.”
You get
Your words, replacements and snippets in Speechy's Dictionary, minus any it already has.
Setup
You do
“Dictate a Messages reply and an email in the speed test.”
You get
Your speaking speed, and how many times faster it is than average typing.
Questions
Superwhisper, Wispr Flow, Aqua Voice, Willow Voice and Monologue.
Words over the length of each recording, averaged across the two replies. You see "faster than the average typing speed" when you're at least 1.2 times the 50 words a minute most people type.
The import step can be skipped. Permissions, signing in, a plan and a voice model are needed before Speechy can dictate.
